Its 48" x 12" footprint is narrower than the 40-gallon breeder, which affects aquascaping, but the additional water volume provides more buffer and supports a slightly larger bioload. Why 55 Gallons

The 55-gallon sits between the 40-gallon breeder and the 75-gallon in both volume and cost. It supports the same core community species as the 40 breeder with more water volume for stability, and it is a natural stepping stone toward a 75-gallon build if you want to add a refugium and work toward a Mandarin Dragonet. The 48" length also gives you more horizontal swimming space than the 40 breeder, which benefits active fish like the Midas Blenny.

Recommended Fish Stocking Plan

Clownfish (pair) — Amphiprion ocellaris or similar

Hardy, reef-safe anchor fish. Add early in the stocking sequence near a host coral or anemone.
