🐍 Juvenile Ball Python Build
Juvenile ball pythons generally do better in a smaller, more secure enclosure than a full adult setup. A large enclosure at this stage can cause feeding refusal and stress — most juveniles do best when they can feel hidden and secure. The 36" Vivarium works well for many juveniles and subadults, but enclosure sizing should ultimately be based on your individual animal’s size, behavior, and ability to maintain appropriate temperature gradients and hide access. Some keepers start hatchlings in tubs and move to a display enclosure at 6–12 months.

2. Substrate
MicroChip Fine Coconut Chip Mix
Fine-particle coconut chip substrate that holds humidity well and allows natural burrowing behavior. The finer texture works well for juvenile ball pythons. Fill to a minimum of 3–4 inches — deeper is better for animals that burrow.

A radiant heat panel mounted to the ceiling interior provides even ambient warmth without visible light. The VE200 proportional thermostat holds a precise set point without temperature spikes. 4. UVB Lighting
Arcadia ProT5 6% UVB D3 Forest Kit
Ball pythons benefit from low-level UVB. The 6% forest kit is widely used for crepuscular and low-light species. Mount inside the enclosure for full output delivery and run on a 12-hour on/off cycle.

5. Hides & Interior
Ball pythons require at least two hides — one on the warm side, one on the cool side. Hides should be snug: the snake should feel fully enclosed inside. A hide that’s too large provides no security benefit.

🐍 Adult Ball Python Build
Adult ball pythons (18 months+, typically 1,000g+) are generally recommended to have at least a 48"x24" floor footprint. A 4’x2’ enclosure is the most widely cited adult size recommendation among experienced keepers and allows for a proper thermal gradient, two hides, a water bowl, and room to move. Some keepers house adults in larger enclosures with good results — the key is ensuring the snake can establish a gradient and has adequate hiding options regardless of enclosure size.
